Mindful Minimalism

Updated: Mar 15, 2023

How can you live minimally without compromising your needs and desires?

Maybe mainstream minimalism is hard for you to follow but what you really need to ask yourself is the reason to adopt minimalism, if it is because you want to live sustainably then there are other ways around it too without being too harsh on yourself.

You can give much more thought to the things you bring to your house. Giving a thought includes finding where and how it was prepared. How much value it adds to your life and how much harm will it cause to the environment.

Other guilt-free collecting of stuff could be to owning stuff that is being discarded by someone else, you could buy second-hand things and also restored refurbished items. Not only will it be a sustainable practice but it will also be affordable for you to buy.

Another interesting way of going minimalistic is buying local handcrafted stuff, instead of buying from famous flashy brands, buying from your local arts and craftsman will help them earn, also there are more chances for the handmade stuff to made more sustainably. Also, this stuff is quite pretty to collect.

Lastly, invest in long-lasting quality things. The reason might be quite obvious to you.

Owning too much stuff is not always a bad thing, if it gives you lasting pleasure, like every time you pass your veranda and find joy glancing at the beautiful painting hanging there then what is so bad about it.

So the bottom line is don’t be so harsh on yourself, don’t crush your desires, but fulfill them mindfully.
